Classical Christian Traditional Cottage
Welcome! Highlands Latin Cottage School Kennebec Valley is a classical, Christian homeschool support program. We offer instruction in core subjects using the award-winning Memoria Press Classical Core Curriculum through a one day per week traditional classroom experience. Our goal is to enhance the homeschool experience of our students by offering a challenging, traditional academic experience that enlivens the mind and refines the soul. Highlands Latin Cottage School Kennebec Valley aims to pass on the heritage of the Christian West to the modern student. We are Christian, classical, and traditional. In all we do, we seek to engender a love for the Good, the True, and the Beautiful.
In partnership with parents, and guided by the Gospel, we seek to provide students with an academically excellent education that combines the beauty of homeschooling with the structure and order of a traditional Christian classroom.
Classical education aims to teach wisdom—how to think—
and virtue—what to do—through the learning of classical languages,
reading classical texts, and study of the liberal arts.
We focus on Latin study beginning in 2nd grade.
We teach the history and mythology of Western Civilization.
We utilize the Memoria Press Curriculum.
Christian education anchors itself to the essentials of the Christian faith,
maintaining belief in the goodness of Christian morality and the divine inspiration
of the Christian Scriptures. Our faith statement is the Apostles’ Creed, the most
ancient and widely accepted expression of the essential beliefs of the Christian faith.
We pray to begin and end our day.
We work hard as if working for the Lord.
We love our neighbor as ourself.
We memorize Scripture.
We warmly welcome all faith backgrounds, while humbly maintaining our identity.
Traditional education takes place in an orderly, teacher-guided classroom with
lessons focused on content mastery.
A cottage school is a homeschool support program which meets weekly for
traditional classroom instruction. The cottage school classroom is consistent with
human nature and the experience of many decades has demonstrated its
superiority over the modern child-centered classroom.
We meet on Mondays at Grace Academy Learning Center.
We teach incremental, age-appropriate lessons, focused on content mastery.
We keep quiet, orderly and disciplined classrooms.
We maintain small class sizes to increase participation and teacher attention.
